How the Bowling Score Calculator Works
This calculator provides a simplified estimate of a bowling game score based on total pins knocked down, number of strikes, and number of spares.
The Bowling Scoring System
Bowling has a unique scoring system based on 10 frames (turns):
- Each frame has 2 throws to knock down 10 pins
- The base score is the sum of pins knocked down
- Strike (X): all 10 pins on the first throw. Bonus: pins from the next 2 throws
- Spare (/): all pins with the second throw. Bonus: pins from the next throw
- The 10th frame is special: on a strike or spare, you get extra throws
The Perfect Game: 300 Points
The maximum score in bowling is 300, achievable only with 12 consecutive strikes. It is a rare feat even for professionals.
