Fuel Consumption Calculator

Calculate your car's average fuel consumption in liters per 100 km and cost per kilometer. Choose a vehicle segment or enter actual data.

How the Fuel Consumption Calculator Works

This tool calculates the real consumption of your car in liters per 100 km. You can use it in two ways:

Quick Mode: Select a Vehicle Segment

Choose the car type (city car, subcompact, SUV, etc.) and fuel type. The calculator uses average real-world consumption for that segment, based on official data corrected by +15% from WLTP cycle to reflect real driving conditions.

Precise Mode: Enter Actual Data

If you know your car's exact consumption, leave the segment empty and enter the liters consumed. The most accurate method is the tank-to-tank method:

  1. Fill up completely at the pump
  2. Reset the trip odometer
  3. Drive normally until the next fill-up
  4. Fill up completely again and note the liters added
  5. Read the km driven from the trip odometer

The Formula

Average consumption: (Liters consumed / Km driven) x 100

For example: 600 km on 42 liters of gasoline = (42/600) x 100 = 7.0 L/100km.

Declared vs Real Consumption

Car manufacturers declare consumption per the WLTP cycle, which replaced the old NEDC cycle in 2018. Even though WLTP is more realistic, real-world consumption is still typically 10-25% higher than the official figure.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you calculate a car's real fuel consumption?
The most accurate method is tank-to-tank: fill up completely, reset the trip odometer, drive normally. At the next fill-up, fill completely again and note the liters and km. Consumption = (liters / km) x 100.
Why is real consumption different from declared?
Declared consumption is measured under the standardized WLTP laboratory cycle. Real consumption is always 10-25% higher due to traffic, air conditioning, driving style, vehicle load, and road conditions.
What is good average fuel consumption?
For a modern gasoline car, below 6-7 L/100km is considered good. For diesel, below 5-6 L/100km. Hybrids can go under 4 L/100km in urban driving. SUVs and sports cars typically consume more.
