How the Name Compatibility Calculator Works
This calculator analyzes the linguistic compatibility between two names using a deterministic algorithm based on three components: shared letters, vowel harmony, and a bonus calculated from the unique combination of names.
The Calculation Method
The algorithm assigns a score from 0 to 100 by analyzing:
- Shared letters (60% of the score): how many letters the two names have in common relative to the total. Two names with many common letters, like "James" and "Jane," will score higher on this component.
- Vowel harmony (20%): measures how similar the vowel proportion is in both names. Names with similar vowel ratios tend to "sound good" together.
- Combination bonus (20%): a deterministic score calculated from the unique combination of the two names, which ensures variety in results.
Why It Is Fun
There is a long tradition of name games, from playground rhymes to magazine quizzes. Our calculator brings this tradition into the digital age with a transparent, reproducible algorithm. You can share the result and your friends will get exactly the same score.
How to Interpret the Result
The compatibility score is purely for entertainment and has no scientific or predictive value. Remember that compatibility between two people depends on entirely different factors: shared values, communication, mutual respect, and much more. This tool is designed exclusively for fun!
