How the Running Speed Calculator Works
This tool calculates your running speed in km/h, m/s, and mph, and your pace in min/km, from the distance and time entered with second-level precision.
The Calculation Formulas
Speed (km/h) = Distance (km) / Time (hours)
Pace (min/km) = Time (minutes) / Distance (km)
Speed (m/s) = Speed (km/h) / 3.6
Speed-Pace Conversion Table
| km/h | Pace (min/km) | Level |
|---|---|---|
| 8.0 | 7:30 | Jogging / Beginner |
| 10.0 | 6:00 | Base runner |
| 12.0 | 5:00 | Intermediate runner |
| 14.0 | 4:17 | Advanced runner |
| 16.0 | 3:45 | Competitive |
| 20.0 | 3:00 | Elite amateur |
How to Improve Speed
Running speed improves by combining different training types: slow running (Zone 2, 70-80% of volume) builds the aerobic base, intervals and repeats (10-15%) improve speed, and race-pace running (10-15%) teaches the body to sustain the target pace.
