How Zodiac Compatibility Works
Zodiac compatibility between two people is based on the relationship between their sun signs. This calculator analyzes the astrological aspect formed between the two signs and determines a compatibility percentage based on traditional astrology principles.
Astrological Aspects in Relationships
In astrology, compatibility between two signs depends on their angular distance in the zodiac, called an "aspect":
- Conjunction (same sign): great natural affinity -- two people who understand each other instantly because they share the same zodiac energy.
- Trine (4 signs apart, 120°): the most harmonious aspect. Signs in trine belong to the same element and naturally support each other.
- Sextile (2 signs, 60°): lively and stimulating compatibility. Signs in sextile have compatible polarities and enrich each other.
- Opposition (6 signs, 180°): magnetic attraction between opposites. The challenge is finding balance between two complementary worldviews.
- Square (3 signs, 90°): the most challenging aspect. Creates tension but also growth. Square relationships are intense and transformative.
The Four Elements and Compatibility
The zodiac is divided into four elements, each with three signs:
Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): passion, energy, action. Compatible with Air. Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn): stability, practicality, sensuality. Compatible with Water. Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius): intellect, communication, lightness. Compatible with Fire. Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces): emotion, intuition, depth. Compatible with Earth.
Beyond the Sun Sign
This calculator only analyzes the aspect between sun signs, which is the most superficial level of astrological compatibility. A thorough analysis would require synastry -- a complete comparison of both natal charts.
